How do I upgrade a Citi Platinum Select credit card to a card with rewards?
If you have a Citibank credit card that does not offer rewards, such as the Citi Platinum Select or Citi Diamond Preferred cards, upgrading to a rewards card is usually pretty simple. Just call the customer service number on the back of your Citibank credit card and tell the customer service representative you would like to switch cards.
Be sure to specify that you want to switch cards to a card with rewards, however, as the customer service rep will most likely be trained to try to get you to open a new card and keep your old card.
When switching to a credit card with rewards, your APR will probably go up. If you carry a balance on your current Citi credit card, think long and hard before trading that card in for a rewards card. Any cash or points back that you earn may not make up for additional interest you will pay on that balance.
