The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage credit card is ideal for frequent fliers on American Airlines who will utilize this credit card for monthly purchases of $2,000 or more. This card will allow you to earn American Airlines reward travel quickly; giving you one AAdvantage mile for every dollar you spend, in addition to 15,000 bonus miles after your first purchase.
Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage Credit Card Fees and Interest Rates
This card carries an $85.00 annual fee, which is waived for your first year of membership. This annual fee is on par with other airline rewards credit cards.
The regular annual percentage rate (APR) is the prime rate plus 9.99%, which is on par with most airline rewards credit cards, but higher than other credit cards. Due to the interest rate associated with the Citi AAdvantage card, we do not recommend this credit card to consumers who anticipate carrying a balance.
Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage Rewards
In addition to miles earned for every purchase, the AAdvantage card carries several other benefits. There are no blackout dates for rewards travel on American Airlines. Rewards travel is also available with over 25 American partners, including top airlines, major car rental companies, and luxurious hotels. Platinum card members get reduced mileage needed for award tickets – 7,500 fewer miles are needed on many flights.
Acceptance Rate
The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage is highly selective. Applicants without very good credit, typically definied as a FICO score of at least 700, should not apply.
If you only have average credit but want a credit card that will earn you American Airlines reward travel faster, consider the AAdvantage Bronze credit card. The Bronze card is available to a wider range of credit levels, and does not carry an annual fee.
