What’s the Minimum Credit Score Needed to Get a Discover Card?

Q. What credit score do I need to get approved for a Discover card?

A. Most applicants will need a credit score of at least 660 to get approved for a new Discover credit card including the Discover it®–Double Cash Back your first year card.

Q. If I meet the minimum credit score requirements, will I be approved for a Discover Card?

Not necessarily. It’s important to keep in mind that credit card companies, including Discover, take a lot of different factors into account when approving or denying new credit card applications such as FICO Score, total debt and available credit, income and work history, and any existing or previous relationship with Discover. Although a good credit score will increase your chances of approval, you can still be denied if you have a good credit score but don’t meet other requirements?

Q. How can I know if I will be approved for the Discover card I want?

Unfortunately, there’s simply no way to know if you’ll be approved for the Discover card you want until you apply. Once you have picked the credit card you want, it’s best just to apply. You can even apply for multiple cards from different issuers at the same time to increase your chances of approval at one of the card companies. (In general, however, it’s NOT a good idea to apply for two cards at once from the same company—so do not apply for two Discover cards at once).

Good luck!
